Doreen took up the role of the Chief Executive in April 2002, after working for the NHS for 15 years, qualifying as a nurse for people with learning disabilities in 1990.

Doreen worked with the Forensic Services at Chemsley Hospital for 2 years. During which time she developed the Minority Ethnic Group Council, a pivotal mechanism for addressing the health inequalities faced by minority(specificly African and Caribbean) communities across Birmingham.

She then went on to become the Social Inclusion Development Manager for the then Birmingham specialist Community Health Trust.

Doreen also sits on a number of boards; the Council of Black Churches, Sisters Acting for Equality (SAFE), Ethnically Diverse NHS Association (EDNA), and she was involved in the collective and the march against Black on Black Violence.
